If you have little ones who love construction trucks/vehicles as much as mine did (you can see my oldest even dressed up as a recycling truck for Halloween one year), check out these books to add to your collection. Or if you’re looking for good gifts for little boys, these were hits in my house and I think would be safe bets for most little ones. Most all of these are for toddlers/preschoolers but may grow to be family favorites that your older ones will listen to with younger siblings as well. Let me know if you have others that your family has loved or if you try any of these and end up loving them too!
I Am A Garbage Truck / I Am A Train / I Am A Firetruck / I Am a Dump Truck / Demolition / Construction / Roadwork / B is for Bulldozer / Dinosaur Dig! / Dinosaur Zoom! / Dinosaur Rescue! / Dinosaur Rocket! / Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site / Mighty, Mighty, Construction Site / Steam Train, Dream Train
- I Am A Garbage Truck, I Am A Train, I Am A Firetruck, I Am a Dump Truck – these are cute little board books for your babies/young toddlers. They’re cut out in the shape of the truck/train and somehow fascinate all of my babies. I won’t lie…we’ve gone through a lot of these…they seem to be easy to destroy and we’ve definitely ripped apart two sets of these. But, they’re like $4 and I’ve somehow been convinced to re-buy them because my boys like them. I think a set of these would be such a cute baby shower present!
- Demolition, Construction, & Roadwork – these board books are all written by the same author, so have the same cadence and structure to them. These have to be some of the most frequently read board books in our house. They easily span different ages because the words are short for babies, the cadence and rhyming is good for toddlers to repeat/finish the sentence, and the words are easy for beginning readers to read. This is an easy present for a new mom of boys.
- B is for Bulldozer – This is a cute little board book that I don’t see as often as some of the others and is a good easy read if you’re trying to fill out your library of construction books – my oldest couldn’t get enough of learning the names of different construction trucks/tools, so he liked this one!
- Dinosaur Dig!, Dinosaur Zoom!, Dinosaur Rescue!, and Dinosaur Rocket! are another set of books that were cute for my preschool boys. They check the box for construction/vehicle books and dinosaurs at the same time which is a pretty sure bet if you’re buying for a boy. They all have colorful pictures, cute short stories, and were fan favorites for my sons. And it looks like you can now buy the first 3 books in a box set on Amazon which I feel like means that lots of other little ones must like these too 😉
- Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site – When I first read this book, my new boy-mom brain was so so happy. It’s more cleverly written than a lot of the board books we had been reading (as it should be – it’s for an older audience) and it was just way more fun to read than some of our baby books had been. We started reading it when my son was about 3 and he still likes it as an old favorite today. The pictures are cute, and it’ll be fun for you and your son…plus, I love that it ends with the construction trucks going to bed…subliminal messaging never hurt a toddler before bedtime 😉 The same author and illustrator teamed up for Mighty, Mighty, Construction Site, and Steam Train, Dream Train – so if you like this one, the others are good bets too! Honestly, Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site is still one of my favorite books in our kiddo library so far.
